Acquisition and Preservation of Remanent Magnetization in Carbonaceous Asteroids

The solar nebula sustained a strong magnetic field that may have aided planetesimal accretion and imparted the chemical remanent magnetization (CRM) observed in some carbonaceous chondrite meteorites. CRM thus provides record of early Solar System at time when parent bodies experienced aqueous alteration. However, link between recorded chondrites geophysical evolution has not been thoroughly investigated. Using thermal models, we show would be natural consequence water-rich planetesimals forming within nebular field. We find large (>50 km radius), which never hosted endogenous dynamo-driven fields due to their lack metallic cores, could strong, present-day magnetism from ancient In situ magnetometer measurements C-type asteroids therefore validate models by suggest 2 Pallas good target for such study. residual detected meteorites is primordial nebula, preserved via alteration processes happened formed around 4 Myr after CAI formation just before dissipation nebula.
